Brad Funk
Team Principal/Skipper
As his surname implies, Brad Funk brings a unique groove and style to his sailing. Known for his ability to make any boat go fast, he expresses the importance of mind/body connection with the elements when it comes to high performance sailing.
He has been an active member of the United States Sailing Team since he was 17, representing the Laser and 49er class; earning silver and gold medals at World Cup regattas in both classes.
His versatility is highlighted by his top-ten finishes in four Moth World Championships including one bronze medal, a top ten at an A-Class catamaran World Championship and winning 5 National Titles in 5 different classes.
Other ventures for Funk included the Star Class at the Barcardi Cup, achieved 5th & 6th places. As well as Match Racing Events to mix with some of the best.
Now stepping into a new role as Vega racing Team Principal and skipper, Funk’s goal is to lead a successful all-American Team in the GC32 Extreme Sailing Series 2017.
Trevor Burd
Mainsail Trimmer
Trevor Burd is a two-time US 49er National Champion with Vega Racing skipper Brad Funk in addition to winning the 2015 US Championship of Champions Regatta.
He has been competing in the 49er for the past 5 years, winning two silver medals on the Sailing World Cup Circuit on the way to 13th in the World Sailing rankings. Trevor is also an experienced beach cat sailor, with experience in the Formula 18 and the Olympic Nacra 17.
Dan Morris
Headsail Trimmer
Born in Minnesota and raised in the cockpit of his parent’s 30-foot sailboat, life for Dan Morris has always been centered on sailing.
Home for Morris is behind a winch with a sheet in his hand, unable to claim a home address. A Match Racing World Champion, winner of multiple international ocean races, and past member of the US National Team as a 49er crew, he has a strong background in larger multihulls including MOD 70, Extreme 40, M32, and Prosail 40.
Mac Agnese
Bowman
While only 22, Mac Agnese has already made his mark in the sailing scene. Agneses skippered a 29er for the 2009 US Sailing U18 Team and the 2010 US Sailing Development Team, as well as competed in the Worlds both years. In 2010, he was also selected to represent the U.S. at the ISAF Volvo Youth Worlds in the SL16 catamaran and brought home a bronze medal. He again represented the U.S. at the ISAF Youth Worlds in 2011.
Currently in his senior year at University of Pennsylvania and part of the Penn Sailing program, Agnese is excited to be a part of the American entry in to the Extreme Sailing Series.
Erick Rodriguez
Floater
Erick Rodriguez started racing sailboats at a very early age with his family in Puerto Rico.
When Rodriguez is not sailing, you can find him weight training, snowboarding, hunting, scuba diving and any activity that gets him on the water.
Mark Strube
Coach/Manager
Mark Strube has been professionally sailing for nearly 20 years. He has been a sailor on three America’s Cup Teams. In addition, Strube is well known in Star Boat racing, finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th in his four US Trials. He is a world champion in the 5.5 meter, a two-time North American Champion in the Star, as well as European and two-time Kiel Week Champion.
