Diogo is one of Portugal’s best-known sailors having competed at three Olympic Games in three different classes (Star, 49er and Tornado). His extensive sailing experience and performance on the water has lead him to win 12 National Championship, one European and one World Championship titles. He has also competed in the America’s Cup World Series.

The only Spanish sailor to compete in the 2016 Extreme Sailing Seies, Javier de la Plaza joins Sail Portugal. Although new to the Series, Plaza brings a wealth of experience to the Sail Portugal Team. Having competed in the Volvo Ocean Race and the AC45 World Series in 2011, Plaza was also 49er world Champion in 2000 and took fourth place in the 49er class at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

Bernardo knows the elite-level, fast-paced Extreme Sailing Series, as he was part of ROFF Cascais Sailing Team, the wildcard entry to the Porto Act in 2013. Bernardo represented Portugal in the 49er Skiff at the London 2012 Olympic Games finishing an impressive eighth place.

Joining the Series for the first time, Brito is a former Tornado Olympic Sailor. Brito competed in the 2015 Sydney Hobart Race and is an experienced match racing and J24 sailor.

Having competed twice for Team iShares when the Series was previously named the iShares Cup, Macfarlane has experience in the Stadium Racing format. Kiwi sailor Mafarlane, who currently sails for SoftBank Team Japan, joins the first Portuguese team to enter the Series. Macfarlane sailed for Team New Zealand in the 2003, 2007 and 2013 America’s Cup campaigns and 2012 America’s Cup World Series, also winning the TP 52 circuit two years in a row and the Louis Vuitton Trophy in 2007 and 2013.
